Well,

I have an interview in Chicago next Friday. 8^) Hopefully this nightmare will be over soon… I will also be swinging by to take a look at a place. Mostly is a curiosity thing.. But from what I see now its a big temptation thing as well. 8^)

nice

Its in the historic district and pretty much all of the hard work has already been done.

Where is the part whereI would be complaining? No part.. Looks like it could use some landscapeing and thats about it.

Fall of 2006 will be long rememebrd as the time I made really bad choices.

Ok,

two nights ago my car got broken into.. or better put the drivers side passanger windows wwas smashed out.  Why? To get at the nighttime parking sticker in the back window. Great…

I worte a different version of this the other night… But it was too full of bad words to actually post. That and I probably sounded deranged in it as well.

Nedless to say Milwaukee is dead to me.  There is pretty much no turning back from this. I should not have to live my life expecting that bad thing will happen to things immediatly outside the door to my home.  I should not have to worry about weather or not the car will still have windows in the morning.. I should not have to worry about weather or not the car will in fact still be there in the morning.  When I hear strange sounds comming from downstairs at night I should be able to assume its the cats instead of grabbing Viera to go have a look around just in case its actually a crack addict look for some easy money in my sitting room.  I should not have a crack super highway running between me and the neighbor house.  I should have city burocrats that give a flying fuck about whats going on.  I should have police that are capable of solving crimes.  When I pay taxes for snow removal the snow in front of the house should get plowed. My garbage should be picked up in a timley and predictable manner.

Fudge it..

I am out of Milwaukee as soon as possible.. I cannot stand this lame backwards ass hick place any more ..

Its good to be the geek

Filed under: The House — fear @ 2:23 pm

ok,

This is yet another post that has little to do with the house. But eh? So what? The job hunt is comming along swimingly. Its good to be the geek… Its better to be the geek with much sought after skillz. I had a recruiter in the loop contact me today. Aparently the part where I know Amanda comes in handy. Amanda is a open-source backup system. Like netbackup but a lot closer to free. I have spent plenty of quality time with it, so whee ha.. They didnt go running for the hills when I told them how much I need to be making either. 8^) Whee ha! again.. Then there was the other recruiter, they are looking for someone who really knows WebTrends. Wow, thanks to all of the time I have spent hating that program up close and personal I am on the short list of folks in the Midwest who can have valid gripes about how WebTrends does things. I never thought that my skill with that occasionally nasty pile of program would ever make a real difference. More interestingly, they are located in Indianapolis. Hmm Indiana 8^P They understand the 8^P part. So, they are looking to fill this as a work from home position. Yea, I do webtrends more or less as a full time thing, and work from home doing it. There is a certain sweetness to the idea of woking a full time job full time from home. Aparently I would go to Indi about once a month. No problem. Its not that much of a drive, and again No Problem.  Pay might not be asd good as the loop, but still better than here, and hopefully better bennies.. Then it quickly really becomes No Problem, I wouldnt really have to move.. Or more importantly I could live pretty much anywhere and still have the same job. Hrmm, now they really have my attention. There is a certain coolness to working from home.. Wow, my commute would go from 90 minutes, to the current 15 or so minutes to 30 seconds.. Unless I hook a notebook up in bed in which case commute would be 0 minutes. 8^) Granted, gonna have to use the home office with a real desk.. Again, No Problem! I could actually have things shipped to the house as I woud be there to take delivery instead of the crack heads. Sweet!

hmm, things just keep getting more interesting..

Check your batteries and mind your mooninites

ok,

In case no one noticed its freekishly cold out around here… So, last night around 2:30am my brother woke me up to point out that it was really cold downstairs. I told him its was because the thermostat is programable and not to worry. I rolled over and fell back to sleep only top be woke up again. “The batter light on the thermostat is blinking” “ohh, crap, there is a real problem” The battery was near dead and the the thermostat was not running the furnace, there had been no new warm iar made in 4 or 5 hours the downstairs was a whopping 45 degrees. As luck would have it there was some fresh batteries to be had so we were not screwed, just cold. The good news is that well, the furnace was runnig again in no time, the better news is that upstairs it was hard to tell tehre was a problem. It was still warm up there. The insulation and radiant barrier was working. Near as could tell it was working pretty well.. It had to have still beein in the mid 60’s in the upstairs so the heat was not being lost nearly as fast up there as it used to be. Used to be that the upstairs was colder than the downstairs despite the heat rising. I now figure that by the time I am ready to sell the house the thermal preformace is going to be pretty good. 8^) I hope the new place is already good when I get there… 8^P

Which reminds me I have to do some follow ups..

Then there are the mooninites. A terrorist plot to destry Boston with lightbrights or a half baked marketing scheme? Apparently the Guv’mnt folks in Boston see a lightbright and think terrorist. Yup, apparently having batteries and a circuit board make things awfully simmilar to a IED.. Yea, and the leds are not a givaway to its real purpose. The there were the idiot Guv’mnt officials in Boston. After the Cartoon network folks informed them that these were a marketing deal they were still saying things like “We need to explore all possibilitys” and “these might still be dangerous” .. They did an amazingly poor job of actually admitting the oops “we might have overreacted” Ok, they should pat themselves on the back, as they proved that they could effeciently respond to a threat. Of course this time the threat was from Improvised Light-Bright Devices. Still, they now have a far better idea of how they would do if it were a real attack than any faked up test could have told them.. Still, they want to throw the marketing guys in jail. For what? The worst they did was some littering. Worse yet, the things had been around for weeks before they became potentially dangerous. The fact that they were able to peacfully coexist with the inhabitants of Boston unnoticed for weeks really suggests to me that there was no real crime.. Worse yet, when folks who knew what was going on told them, they ignored them.. What the hell???

So, now a little lesson in IED and Mooninite for the Boston Guv’mnt officials and fools at Fox news.

Yea, Boston Guv’mnt officials could have turned this into a non embarrasing win win for themselves and the marketoids at Cartoon Network. But they over reacted, and let temselves be lead on my the news media.. The result is that youtube is now full of clips of them being dumb like rocks.

Unfortunatly, when it was time to not make asses of themselves they

its cold

wow,

I really should have gotten the pex system on line last summer. 8^P Because right now its damm cold. Cold Cold Cold… I dont like it.. 8^P

Anyways, its that magical time of the year when I am thankfully not doing much work on the house. In a week or two I should pick up the sinck for the half bath from hell and be ready to call that finally finished for good. 8^) I could be doing the baseboards in the bedrooms and study, but hmm I am cold and dont feel like doing it. 8^) I have been spending lots of quality time with Adobe After Effects.. Great stuff you you are into video editing, so I like it.  I have also been spending even more time Pwning up N00bs on line playing Il2. 115 Kills in one month on my favorite server all while maintaining a posative kill death ratio.  8^) I also just saw Mike Judges latest movie “Idiocracy” If you get a chance see this movie if for any other reason just to piss Fox off.   8^)

Then there is the job hunting.. Wow, I am hatnig things where I am now.  I hate it a bit more every day. The day of truth looks to be March first when the new pwners take over and start messing this place up like the bunch of backwater hick ass noobs they really are.  Speaking of which I was on the phone with a recruiter ealier today, he asked why I would want to leave Milwaukee… I blurted out with “Because I cannot stand this backwater hick ass town any more” I am going to get a lot of mileage out of the words hick, backwater and ass for the next couple of days. Hopefully I find new job really soon. I was thinking that once I have it I will have a t-shirt made on the front it will say “suck muh ballz” on the back it will say “screw you guys, I quit” Once the new job is secured I wll probably be pretty busy here as then the break neck hard core make saleable finish up will start. There are a number of must do’s for a sale to work. Like the everything. 8^P Then I can start blogging about the new old house that will preferably not need major work of any kind. 8^) At least not any that is not strictly voluntary.

There was something else going in here… Ohh yea Global Warming.. We have some warm winter and suddenly everyone is freeking out about it. It seems like lots of folks are running around saying dooms day is approching when the evidence of that is kind of thin. I am not saying that something is happening when Its pretty clear that there is. At the same time I question the velocity and target of the currnet warming trend. The earth has been warmer before.  Heck, we weere comming out of a mini ice age when the temrature records started being kept. That was only 100 or so years ago. So, we really dont have much good data. Lots of indirect interpolated data, but lots of thermometer said this at noon in 1466 we do not have. Apparently during roman times england was a wine producer. They had a climate that allowed vinyards. That changed dramaticly at the end of the Roman empire with the weather changes that resulted from a volcano in the pacific rim exploding. Then made worse by the various mini ice ages that followed. This of course means that as far a modern written records go we have always lived on a cold planet. It could be there is a big old cosmic joke going on and the world is entering a warm cycle at the same time that we have done a great job of cerwing things up already. Could be that we are only accelerating the problem and are not the sole cause of it. Again, not saying that we need to have a hell of a lot more respect for the world around us. But we should also not just jump on the easy bandwagon of its all our fault as that prevents folks from asking the rest of the important questions. That menas we dont get all the answers and the whole truth. Science is about finding the truth, till we have all of it we should be encouraging the debate not trying to stop it.

Thats all for now
